 Botox in the bladder does not treat the cause of the overactive bladder, but it does reduce symptoms for a period of time. This treatment is performed by placing a fiber-optic camera into the bladder, enabling us to see the inside of the bladder cavity. We then inject Botox directly into the bladder muscle. When this happens, the nerve that stimulates contraction of the bladder muscle no longer transmits its message and symptoms are reduced.


The effect is temporary; however, it can last between half a year and 2 years depending on your own personal situation and often will improve with repeat treatments.


Botox in the bladder has also been shown to be effective in maintaining clinical improvements made through pelvic floor exercises and electrical stimulation (Biofeedback).
